こんにちは！オーストラリアでのワーホリを終えて帰国したばかりの谷尾理菜です。
ワーホリを検討中の皆様に、私のホテルインターンシップの経験を紹介させていただきたいと思います。
日本でのブラック気味な会社員生活に飽き、海外旅行を何不自由なく楽しみたいとの思いで語学留学を決心。セブで3ヶ月語学学校に通った後、満を持してワーホリのためにオーストラリアへ。
最初の2ヶ月はメルボルンの語学学校に通う
ホテルインターンシップのコースで最初の2ヶ月はメルボルンの語学学校に通いました。
その間にエージェントさんにレジュメを提出して待つことさらに約1ヶ月…電話で面接を行うとの連絡が！
電話で英語を聞き取れるか超不安だったものの、なんとか無事に仕事をゲット！
希望通りのグレートバリアリーフで勤務決定！
1週間後にメルボルンからケアンズへ飛び、指定された航空会社のラウンジへ…そこで待っていたのは8人乗りの小型セスナ！えっ…これに乗るの？大丈夫？っていう気持ちもありつついざテイクオフ！
下に広がるのはかの有名なグレートバリアリーフ！なかなか実際に上から眺めたことがある人は少ないのではないでしょうか？
後から知ったのですが、島とケアンズの往復のフライトだけで普通のお客さんは＄700を払わなくちゃいけないそうです。高！！
超高級リゾート リザードアイランド
綺麗な海を堪能すること約1時間…ついに日本人にはほぼ知名度のないリザードアイランドという島に到着。
青い海と白い砂浜！そして人がいない！！
こーんなビーチ独り占めみたいな写真も簡単に撮れてしまいます。
それもそのはず、この島にあるもの…それは私がこれから働くホテル、ただそれだけ。
東京ドーム213個分の島に住んでいるのはホテルの従業員だけ。
なんと10歳未満のお子様もお断り！
ホテルの宿泊者以外は上陸できない秘境…それがリザードアイランド。
そして、私が働くリザードアイランドリゾートは1泊1部屋、最低でも＄2,000〜（2人部屋です！）
最高級の部屋だと1泊＄5,000〜（これも2人部屋です！）…
そう、超高級リゾートなのです！名前は言えませんが誰でも知っているあのハリウッドスターにも会いました！！
お客さんとしてはおそらく一生行くことのなかった島でしょう！！
ハウスキーピングのお仕事
そんな超高級リゾートで私はハウスキーピングの仕事をしていました。
基本的には朝と夜にお客様の部屋に行き、お部屋を掃除します。（超高級なので、朝だけでなくお客様が夕食を食べている間にまたベッドメイキングします！）
部屋は40部屋ありますが、建物の中に部屋が並んでいるのではなく、海沿いに家が並んでいるイメージです。バギーを運転して部屋間を移動します。
もちろんチェックアウト後の部屋もフルクリーンします。
２シフト勤務
朝8時くらいから働いて14時くらいまでに朝のターンを終えて、18時くらいから夜のターンが始まり21時くらいに終わるというのが通常シフトでした。
こちらハウスキーピングチーム！
国籍は本当にバラバラで、オージーはもちろん、イギリス、フランス、スペイン、フィリピン、タイ、中国、ブラジル、アルゼンチン、チリとなんともインターナショナル！！私以外はみんな英語堪能です！！笑
忙しい時期は週に50時間
仕事は基本的に週に5日で、忙しい時期は週に50時間くらい働いてました！（クリスマスシーズンは本当に忙しかった…）
暇な時期は35時間
みんな本当に優しくて面白い人たちです！英語が聞き取れない私にも丁寧に色々教えてくれました。
休日の過ごし方
休みの日はみんな思い思いに島を楽しみます！ビーチに行ったり、山に登ったり…SUPやカヤック、ディンディーと呼ばれる小さな船も無料で借りれます。
お客さんと一緒にシュノーケルやダイビングなどのアクティビティにも参加可能です！（もちろんタダ）
ただ、船で沖に出なくてもビーチからすぐそこにサンゴ礁が広がっていて、水族館みたいな景色が楽しめます。
海ガメにもすぐ出会えます。ビーチにみんな集まってゲームをしたり、ビーチボールではしゃいでみたり、のんびりお酒を飲みながら夕日を眺めたりなんて最高です。
夜の過ごし方
夜は必ず誰かの部屋のバルコニーでパーティーが開かれています。みんなお酒大好きです。
どうして外国人ってみんなもれなくお酒が好きでお酒に強いのでしょうか…？
歌って踊って飲んで最高に楽しかったです。賑やかなバルコニーに行くとみんなどんどんお酒をくれます。
なぜかたこ焼き器を持ってる人がいて、逆に日本人の私にたこ焼きを振る舞ってくれたりもしました!
リザードアイランド周辺の環境
島にはホテルしかありませんが、お金を払えばホテルのレストランで食事をしたり、スパでマッサージしてもらったりもできます。
従業員用のお店は週に2日開いていて、食料やお酒、生活必需品は手に入ります。
といっても1日に1時間しか開いてないのですが…でも、慣れれば意外と不便はないです。そしてある程度の生活必需品を島に持って来ていたら、食事は毎日3食ビュッフェスタイルで提供されるので、別にお金を一切使わなくても生活しようと思えばできます。
何が言いたいのかと言うとすっごくお金が貯まります❤️
突然のコロナショック、全員無職に！
そんなこんなであっという間に時は過ぎ、島に来て4ヶ月が経とうとしていた頃、英語にも仕事にも慣れてきてまだまだ島でやりたいことを計画していたそんな時、突然ホテルが最低2ヶ月休業することになり、従業員全員無職に！
みんな島から強制退去！私はやむなく日本へ帰国することになりました…。
そうコロナウイルスの影響です…後2ヶ月働く予定だったのに！
名残惜しむ暇もなく、島を後にしました…
すごくすごく日本に帰りたくなかったんですが、でも働く場所もないしオーストラリア内の行動もどんどん制限されていく中で、日本に帰る以外の選択肢がなかったのです…。
オーストラリアにまた帰れる日を夢見て日本で英語の勉強を続けていこうと思います！
